Spring Term- What are we learning?

It is wonderful to continue our Year 4 great adventure through Spring. In our team we are resilient, have a positive mind-set and embrace challenges. We are very excited to take you on a journey to build your independence, improve your skills and develop a love of learning and thirst for knowledge.

Writing: Exploring the Power of Words
This term, we will focus on applying authorial intent and developing our descriptive writing skills to paint vivid pictures with words. Our passion for reading is at the heart of everything we do and we love responding to exciting books that inspire creativity and imagination.

Reading is central to our learning, and we are thrilled to invite you on adventures into new worlds while developing our love for literature. This term, we will explore a variety of wonderful books, including The Firework Maker’s Daughter by Philip Pullman . If you have a sense of adventure and dream big, this story will inspire you to follow your heart and embrace the power of dreams.

Maths: Thinking Like Mathematicians

In Maths, we embrace challenges and enjoy solving problems creatively. We take pride in presenting our learning in different ways and always remember to SLAM (Speak Like A Mathematician) by using our mathematical language and reasoning. This term, we will continue to strengthen our knowledge of times tables with daily practice, ensuring we are well-prepared for the end-of-year multiplication check.

 

History: Exploring the Legacies of the Past

As historians, we will journey through time to uncover the fascinating legacies and lasting impacts of the Ancient Greeks and the Anglo-Saxons. From their cultural achievements to their influence on the modern world, we will explore how these remarkable civilizations shaped history and left their mark on society as we know it today.

Science: Investigating Electricity and Sound
In Science, we will become scientists investigating, diving into the fascinating world of electricity. We’ll create our own electrical circuits and explore how they work. Alongside this, we will learn how sound travels, exploring its properties through hands-on experiments that bring the science of sound to life.

Art: Developing Observational Skills with Charcoal
As artists, we will refine our observational skills through the expressive medium of charcoal. Prepare to get messy as we explore shading, texture, and depth, creating bold and dynamic artwork that captures what we see with creativity and precision.

Design and Technology: Crafting Anglo-Saxon Bags
In Design and Technology, we will combine creativity and functionality by designing and making useful Anglo-Saxon-inspired bags. This will give us the opportunity to learn about historical craftsmanship while applying modern techniques.
